I have been on a blog vacation. I find myself only posting when I am inspired, and tonight is the night! My niece is amazing. It gives me hope for this generation that is coming of age. She is creative, fun, and easily accepting of others. She talks about how important it is to accept others that are different from us. Now I am translating....she actually said that a friend of hers was talking bad about people that are gay. She then had to ask them, do you like this person and this person and this person? They were good friends that were gay. He said yes. She said then you have to like gay people. What is great is she inspired me to take her to a musical tonight. Not just any musical, but one that touches on judgement, hate, and ignorance. I found myself in a room full of people cheering about being different. He was singing about "Freaks". I think of “freaks” as "Cultural Creatives." Really the truth is that we are all "Freaks" or “Cultural Creatives.” Some of us are hiding. Some of us are afraid of the unknown. Some of us are frozen by fear of being our authentic selves. How many times have you hidden your light because you wanted to fit in? Didn't want to be noticed? Were afraid of what other people would think if they knew your true self? There are cultural norms and stereotypes that lock us in, but what if we had the space to explore? That is really what we need, to let all of the youth of today do, is explore their path. Of course, that also means gender as well as what our spirit is creating this life time. Especially now, since politically, it feels like we are in the dark ages. Letting kids explore their gender is huge. Of course, I live in Portland where it might possibly be the easiest place to explore your identity safely. I have to say, I love all the mothers that I see really try to encourage their children to find themselves, and it starts with them. I loved it when I hear my friend say to her son if you love a man or a woman it doesn't matter! We are all here to learn, create, and grow. Creating acceptance of others allows us all to explore our vision. Which also allows for less hate, judgement, and ignorance. So, what if we all could explore freely our creative side with out judgement? Giving acceptance, compassion and love to that part of ourselves that is afraid of creating those things that would push people out of there comfort zones. Really for all of us there is a time when we have to explore with others our inner creative. The push is to let that part of us that is uncomfortable, really set in how uncomfortable we feel expressing our authentic self. So what is that thing that you want to create that makes you uncomfortable? Find that person that reflects with love, compassion, and acceptance so that you can really find your edge. Because what if your fear and holding back is what you are reflecting to others..... I challenge us all to really show up and create that thing that we are most afraid of, because what if spreading that light could shift us all out of this time of darkness?!
